A.K.A. New Media has been closely following the spread of the COVID-19 virus to ensure continued delivery of your services. Our responsibility is to you, our valued clients, and to the well-being of our staff and their families.

A.K.A. remains fully operational and we are committed to supporting you, especially during this challenging time. Apart from team members potentially working remotely, A.K.A. New Media Inc. is fully operational from both a customer service and technical perspective.

We are following the direction and advice of local health officials, governments and health organizations, and are prepared to take all appropriate safety precautions to ensure we are able to maintain business continuity, should it be necessary:

  • All staff have the capacity to work remotely from secure environments
  • Account Managers are accessible by email and/or web meeting
  • Phone support may be limited in the event of an office closure. As such, we encourage you to use email as the primary means of communication with your Account Manager
  • Emergency contacts as detailed in your personal Escalation Document are also accessible
  • At a hosting & CMS level, the environments on which A.K.A. operates are fully redundant with 24/7 monitoring and disaster recovery

The continued success of our clients is, and will remain, our priority.

The situation surrounding COVID-19 is fluid and evolving worldwide, and we will continually be assessing our position, and will adapt if necessary. We will keep you informed of any changes by email and on our website. We appreciate your patience and continued support.

Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns. And most importantly, please stay safe and look after each other.

Sincerely,
A.K.A. New Media Inc.

For over 50 years, a vision of “excellent kidney health, optimal quality of life and a cure for kidney disease” has guided the Kidney Foundation of Canada to be a collaborative, inventive and focused leader in the development of programs, services, research opportunities and awareness campaigns that have had a positive impact on the millions of Canadians living with, or at risk of developing kidney disease.

The Kidney Foundation of Canada needed a new website that would better support their vision, inspire their constituents and capitalize on current web best-practices. The result is an immersive, user-friendly, best-in-class website.  The website, built on Kentico CMS, integrates with AKA raisin’s new General Donation module. As the Kidney Foundation of Canada has chapter locations across Canada, the new website utilizes geo-location settings to display dynamic content to users based on their location.

Check out the new website here and make a donation that will help the foundation advocate for those living with kidney disease and bring hope for their future.

Of the thousands of websites built on Kentico and launched globally each month, the new Round House Theatre website, designed and developed by A.K.A. was named a Site of the Month.

Dubbed “the current meteor in DC Theatre” by the Washington Post, Round House Theatre is one of the “Big Six” professional theatres in the Washington, DC area. Round House is a home for outstanding ensemble acting and lifelong learning.

Round House needed a website that would better engage their growing and loyal ticket buying audience, aiding their mission to captivate audiences with stories that inspire compassion, evoke emotions and demand conversation.  The website integrates with Spektrix Ticketing System to help Round House offer a convenient and mobile responsive ticket buying experience for users.

Alongside the launch of their new website, in order to help create a dynamic and flexible theatre space, Round House recently underwent a beautiful $9 million dollar renovation.  If you are living in or visiting the Washing DC area, check out their lineup that’s brimming with heart, soul and a whole lot of humor.

Ontario has a goal to become fully accessible for people with disabilities by 2025, so that those with disabilities have more opportunities to participate in everyday life.  You’re likely aware of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), but what you might not know is how the AODA applies to your website and other digital properties.

Under the AODA, all public sector, private and non-profit organizations are required to make their websites accessible.  By January 1st, 2021, all public websites and web content posted after 2012, must meet the WCAG Level AA.  The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) is an internationally accepted standard for web accessibility developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

WCAG guidelines will make content accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including:

  • Blindness and low vision
  • Deafness and hearing loss
  • Learning disabilities
  • Cognitive impairments
  • Mobility impairments
  • Speech impairments
Following the WCAG guidelines will not only make your website and content more accessible to people with disabilities, it will also make it more usable by older individuals with changing abilities due to ageing and ultimately it will improve the overall experience for all users.  WCAG’s guidelines and success criteria are organized around the following principles, which lay the foundation necessary for anyone to access and use web content:
  1. Perceivable: Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive.
  2. Operable: User interface components and navigation must be operable.
  3. Understandable: Information and the operation of user interface must be understandable.
  4. Robust: Content must be robust enough that it can be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies.
It’s important to know that AODA compliance is not optional.  Companies can face fines of up to $100,000 a day for non-compliance and directors and officers of a corporation with fiduciary responsibility are liable for a fine of up to $50,000 a day.

Though Level AA compliance is not required until 2021, as an interactive agency with particular thought leadership, A.K.A. has been developing websites to meet Level AA for several years.  Because of our commitment to the AODA and our client’s success, we have partnered with Siteimprove to offer our client’s a complimentary digital audit of their site to evaluate where they currently stand in advance of the upcoming deadline.  Siteimprove is a global leader in digital accessibility and website optimization solutions, helping over 7,500 organizations world-wide provide a more inclusive online experience.
