Step 1 to creating your digital strategy is to set your objectives and goals.

Creating a Digital Strategy – Step 1: Objectives & Goals

The planning of a digital strategy involves an analysis of the following:

1. The initial aims and expected returns:
  • What are your goals?
It's important to ask yourself this question. In order to figure out if your digital strategy is working for you, you must have goals for your business. Do you want more followers on your social network channels? Would you like to increase the number of people signing up for a membership? Having this information will allow you to focus your strategy.

2. The background of the brand, present positioning and perception:
  • What sort of “voice” do you want to have?
  • What do people think about you?
How do you want to position yourself? Are you joke tellers? Are you more business oriented? Think about how you want your viewers to see you and this will help you stay on track with content and more.

3. The audience (broken down into key segments):
  • Existing client, potential clients, other companies in your industry.
Who are your existing clients? How do you want to position yourself to them even though you have their current business? Who are your potential clients? Are they in the same realm as your existing or do you want to go after a new market? Answer these questions in relation to your digital strategy and you will narrow down your goals.

4. Complete review of current performance and assets:
  • Establishing base metrics.
What is your current positioning on your social networks? What networks are you using? It's very possible that you could be using one social network that isn't as relevant to your business as another, for example many companies forget to post on their LinkedIn page, but this social network is connecting you with so many other businesses and potential clients.
